DR. STEVEN HOLLAR

FOR INDIANA UNIVERSITY TRUSTEE

VOTING HAS BEGUN

Dr. Steven C. Hollar graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1993. He resides in Warsaw, Indiana and is the owner of Hollar Dental Group, where he’s been serving his patients for 28 years. He is a proud life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association.

You may recognize Dr. Hollar from his lead role in the movie HOOSIERS. He played Rade Butcher #25 on the famed Hickory Husker team that captured the hearts of all basketball fans.

Dr. Hollar is currently the president of the Indiana Dental Association. He is also chairman of the IDA’s COVID-19 Task Force. Prior to these elected roles, he was appointed by governors Mitch Daniels and Mike Pence to the Indiana State Board of Dentistry. He served for nine years on the ISBD and was chairman for two years. For his outstanding service, he was awarded Indiana’s highest civilian honor, The Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Mike Pence.

During the past year, Dr. Hollar was honored to serve on the Indiana University Presidential Search Advisory committee at the request of the Indiana University Board of Trustees. After talking with many of you, Dr. Hollar feels our next president should be a student focused, vibrant leader, who excels at complex challenges and innovative opportunities and can listen well while leading with conviction.

Preserving Indiana University’s rich traditions for future generations must be a
cornerstone of our next president. Dr. Hollar is eager to work alongside the new president to uphold and enhance the degree that each student works hard to achieve.
The completion of the search and appointment of Indiana University’s 19th president will be of lasting importance on all current students, faculty, staff and alumni. Our next president will face challenges not yet considered. Advanced healthcare, autonomous technology, hybrid education, varied workplaces, cutting edge technology and collaborative research will create opportunities for educational leadership and innovative outcomes. Dr. Hollar will work tirelessly in the transition of leadership offering a fresh perspective and support for new initiatives.
Indiana University raised nearly $3.9 billion during the recent five year “For All campaign.” The generous contributions from more than 320,000 alumni and more than 20,000 faculty and staff have endowed more than 5800 undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships along with 235 professorial positions. The bicentennial campaign success along with Indiana’s general fund appropriation should secure the future of Indiana University.

Our future challenge will be to operate an academic institution like a business, creating excellent yet affordable education for the students, while financially rewarding our professors and hard-working staff. As a business owner, Dr. Hollar inherently understands the importance of making wise fiscal choices while empowering the workforce through innovation and creativity in order to optimize organizational success.

Indiana University’s complex campus footprint presents unique challenges for the future sustainability of the University. IU Bloomington, IUPUI and the IU regional campuses: East, Kokomo, Northwest, South Bend, Southeast, and Fort Wayne all differ based on individual campus priorities and capacity. Dr. Hollar pledges to work intentionally with each campus to implement the strategic plan and budget process. The recent COVID-19 pandemic proved educational delivery in the future will need to pivot and adapt in order to succeed.
Modernizing all academic facilities and streamlining programs across all of our campuses should remain a priority. COVID-19 forced complete online learning and perhaps revealed a hybrid learning approach is the new normal. Dr. Hollar will advocate for in-person learning and preservation of our educational footprint, while embracing technology and recognizing unique online opportunities for students.

Dr. Hollar’s proven leadership while operating a business, effective management of a large team and diverse liberal arts education are a few of the characteristics that would make him an excellent Trustee. As a Doctor of Dental Surgery, his strong science foundation will be a welcomed and necessary voice at the board table. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed the ongoing importance of science and information technology at all levels of our university.

Dr. Hollar vows to provide new ideas while preserving IU’s strong heritage and international recognition as a world leader in higher education. His strengths as a mediator of broad ideas, progressive business strategies and innovative thinking will have a critical impact on the Indiana University Board of Trustees.

Steve and his wife Jennifer recently celebrated 30 years of marriage. They have three married children and one bouncy little grandson. Steve’s father and oldest son are Indiana University School of Dentistry graduates and his youngest son is currently attending IUSD. The Hollar family is proud of their three generations of Indiana University graduates.

Dr. Steven Hollar has the time, energy and passion to serve as your trustee for Indiana University and would appreciate your alumni vote.
